Pulse, in a nutshell, is a comedy about a boy and a girl competing at a gym.
This short splices machine sounds to human-made organic sounds. Electronic music beats in time to the beat of the human pulse: the viewer is almost ready to head down to the nearest gym for a pulsating workout. The girl lashes her hair about like a samurai warrior in action as the Elijah Wood-type boy tries to keep up with her. Leni Riefenstahl’s depiction of the human form in motion in her award-winning documentary, Olympia, of the 1936 Games, inspired me to make Pulse.
